Detours

I was very excited to get The Devil's Favor manuscript back from my editor… until I had a freak fall at work and broke my collarbone. This is why you haven't heard from me here in a bit. I cannot begin to express how annoying it is to be typing one handed. At least it wasn't my dominant side!

I've been trying to finish up a project for work that requires me to write labs so that I can focus on the manuscript. I think I can finish the project this coming week. That will give me a lot more time to do what I want.

I have been able to work on the manuscript a bit here and there. Today, I just finished doing the immediate track changes edits (for things like comma usage, better wording choices, and bizarre Microsoft formatting issues that appeared out of nowhere). Next, I will tackle the list of things that need to be done that will mean rewriting actual prose.

I agree with most everything my editor pointed out… and what I don't agree with is not because I think he is wrong as much as I see that I didn't make something clear, so that equals “rewrite” just the same. He's been very forthcoming in his advice (he is an award winning author himself) and he has helped me understand some concepts that I had begun to pick up instinctively but needed to flesh out. I am greatful to count him as a friend.

Still, y'all pray for me. I had been worried that I would be finished way ahead of schedule and would have to sit on the manuscript and sweat. Now? Now I'm greatful that the publisher I hope to work with isn't accepting manuscripts until 2026. 🤣 One handed typing is so slow! It's especially annoying when I think I'm getting into a groove, then I stumble over the keyboard and lock up the text. Ugh.

In the end, I will still get to my target, I'm just having to take a detour. I have no doubt everything will work out fine.
